1990 Upper Deck Gary Sheffield - No Text
I have 27 of these 1990 Upper Deck cards with no text printed on them. I have no idea where they came from. My mom’s boyfriend gave them to me in 1990 and I’ve had them ever since. I’m assuming they are some kind of photo test run? All of the photos match the photos on the final cards, and it’s not a missing printing plate because the black is obviously printed in the pictures/borders. They are also not erased cards (like people used to do to try to pretend they had a Ben McDonald “no logo” error) because you wouldn’t be able to erase the position without erasing the box behind it or the copyright sign next to the team logos.
Anyway, I still think they are pretty cool. My favorite one is this Sheffield card though. The classic Brewers hat and the distant stare, almost as great as his 1989 Topps rookie. I think it is made all the more cool by being a rare “no text’ version.
